Walking past, first the name caught my attention. Then the music caught my ear. I look around, the wall painting captured my attention. Small bar, big vibe! The catch phrase captures my curiosity. I park my bike and I walk in. I browse the menu and think of getting the usual sparkling. Then the happy folks next to me getting a piece of fresh lemon in their golden ale. I change my mind, I order the same. Enjoying Fresh night breeze after the baking hot simmer summer day. A train of generic pop songs playing after another like how the trains pass by the newtown station. One of the best ways to chill out and enjoy the peaceful summer night time in Sydney.
Had another amazing dinner and drinks at Uncanny with my friends on Sunday night. Such a great atmosphere with moody lighting, nerdy art on the walls and dj Mari spinning groovy records all night. I’ve had my eye on this winter menu and I’m glad to say it did not disappoint. I got the pumpkin gnocchi and cauliflower gratin and had a bite of my partners steak. SO GOOD. And as always, my favourite spot for coeliac friendly food. Obsessed with those dirty loaded potatoes. The cosy food paired well with a hot mulled cider and a fancy rose cocktail bartender Zoe whipped up especially for me. Big thanks to all staff, especially Chef Dimi and bartenders Jacob, Sara and Zoe for making my night special.
Cocktails were delicious and wine list was big. We also enjoyed the drinking food - great snacking options on the menu.
Came for their $2 Tuesday oysters (tasty and fresh!) and sampled some of their other offerings. The tempura eggplant had earth-shatteringly crunchy batter - so moreish!! Stuffed eggplant filling was rather bland though - needed some more umami. The aioli that comes with the potato cubes is addictive 👌 Cocktails are delicious!! Had the Golden Shower, tried some of my friend's cocktail (the name eludes me) which was equally delicious.
All round a nice bustling atmosphere. Good music, friendly staff, clean space and quirky decor makes for a fun time at Uncanny. Went for cocktails/mocktails during a sketch session with a friend but will be back to try their food for sure. Also very cute how they have the Art Bazaar every now and then to support local artists.
