Never thought that I would ever experience poor, or really the lack of customer service in a pub like this. Everywhere you could expect to be acknowledged by staff once you've walked through the doors, not here though. My wife and I booked a table and arrived on time for our lunchtime reservation. Unfortunately, we stood there and waited and no acknowledgement was given. Not even a simple hello, such a poor level of hospitality from a hospitality venue. Maybe it was our skin colour that got us different treatment. Businesses like this should hire customer-orientated staff, not individuals that can't even be approachable. I rated 1 start for the food but really it should be zero, as we didn't get to sit down. Won't come here again on our next visit to Tasmania.

There are no words to describe the stress of Christmas this year. I organised for my mum to come out for a few hours during the day. Because this was her first outing in months, I booked a maxi cab through 13CABS well in advance for 11.30am, over several days, about a week prior. I also called twice to confirm everything was in place. Despite multiple confirmations, the cab did not show up. It wasn’t until Arthur, the owner of The Marquis, personally called them and gave them a very firm push that a cab arrived, less than 15 minutes later with Mum getting to lunch at 1.30pm. This was unacceptable service from 13cabs , especially given the circumstances. Very disappointing. On the other hand, I cannot thank Arthur at The Marquis enough. He went above and beyond, squeezing our large family in at the last minute, helping organise transport, ensuring the food was excellent, allowing us to stay longer because again the cab was a no show, and even trying to organise another cab home for Mum. Exceptional service, genuine care, and professionalism. Highly recommend Marquis Bistro and Buffet

Christmas miracles really do happen sometimes and ours was Arthur at The Marquis. He went above and beyond to squeeze our large family in at the very last minute, helped organise transport, made sure the food was absolutely amazing, and created such a super lovely atmosphere that we instantly felt looked after. When our cab was a no show again, Arthur let us stay longer and even tried to organise another cab home for Mum. Exceptional service, genuine care, and true professionalism. Could not recommend this place enough. Thank you for saving our Christmas.

A very pleasant surprise was the response of my hub and son! At first when I told them I booked our lunch here, they were not too excited. But, the service, atmosphere, the food and overall experience were enough for them to admit I was right to have our son 's bday lunch here. Our son did say it was great to be able to control portions of his fave goodies like the pasta, veggies and desserts galore! My hub truly agreed the food was unexpectedly fresh and tasty, especially the butter chicken which he normally doesn't eat ( he prefers vindaloo or rogan josh). Special mention to the staff especially Isabelle who was very accommodating and friendly. I even asked her to please take our souvenir photo and she happily agreed and when I said its our son's bday she went away and came back with a big slice of choc cake with a bday greeting. Since we were quite full, she let me take a photo first then she packed the slice in a box. Upon paying, she asked our son if his name is... and he said yes..so I asked what's yours? Turned out, they have met before, she was our son's best flat mate's younger sister in high school. No wonder, I kept telling the guys, the waitress seems very nice and attentive! Not just to us! Even before discovering they know each other, we were talking about coming back here for other special occasions ( I am on a less meat and more veggies diet though.) This place is indeed a gem, come early especially during week days, less people, more quiet! Thank you Marquis, you made our son's day special! Thanks Atef(on my next visit, he gave me a discount). Oh, there are great water views too from some tables, request one if you can upon making reservations. I'll be back for sure!
