We went here for lunch. Very yummy food! A little on the pricey side for what you get but still delicious. The fish bao was very tasty. The staff seemed a little uninterested and not very friendly, but it was a Monday!

Overall an excellent restaurant in the heart of the CBD. Started off with the fish finger bao, which lived up to the hype, so ended up having two. Prawn dumplings had a nice depth of flavour. The duck did not disappoint and the claypot rice was on point even with the crunchy bottom layer of rice. Had to go with the deep fried ice cream although their dessert of the day was very tempting. Staff were very professional and on point despite a very busy service. Would like to return.

King Clarence delivers a bold and flavour-forward dining experience, blending contemporary Asian influences with a refined industrial aesthetic (note for those who find it hard to hear with background music, it does get quite loud as the night progresses). From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by Riley, who guided us through the layout of the menu — a helpful touch for first-time diners. Our server, Paul, was attentive, professional, and friendly throughout the evening, and the dedicated sommelier provided expert insight into their extensive and well-curated wine list. Service overall struck a balance between polished and personable, with small touches of silver service, like napkin placement, adding a nice sense of occasion. The Merimbula oyster was an elegant start — fresh, briny, and beautifully balanced by a delicate vinaigrette. The steamed prawn dumplings followed; while nicely made, they leaned toward the subtle side and could have used a touch more seasoning or texture contrast. The fish finger bao, on the other hand, was a clear standout — simple, crisp, and perfectly composed. Its straightforward flavour profile was refreshing against the richer, sauce-heavy dishes that followed. The king salmon was a delight: tender, fresh, and vibrant, letting the natural quality of the fish shine through. The beef tartare, while interestingly dressed, slightly masked the purity of the meat — a lighter hand on the sauce would let the main ingredient take centre stage. Similarly, the pippies were pleasant but somewhat overshadowed by their bold sauce. A surprise highlight was the cucumber salad — crisp, bright, and cleverly elevated with earthy cloud mushrooms. It provided a welcome palate cleanser and textural counterpoint to the heavier courses. The duck dish, unfortunately, didn’t quite reach the same heights; while well-cooked, it lacked the crisp skin and lift that could have balanced its rich, heavy sauce. The fried rice was satisfying but enjoyed late in the menu when fullness had already set in. To finish, the fried peanut butter ice cream was decadent, sweet, and nostalgic — a fun dessert, though quite rich after such an indulgent progression of courses. Overall, King Clarence offers a thoughtfully constructed tasting experience with plenty of personality. The ingredients are high quality, the service is exceptional, and the atmosphere walks the line between urban cool and fine dining comfort. While some dishes lean heavily into strong sauces that can overshadow subtler flavours, diners who appreciate bold, confident cooking will find a lot to enjoy here.

Came for a birthday and ordered ala carte and 2 mocktails. Every dish was exceptional. We would return just for the entrees alone. Great ambiance with friendly and attentive wait staff. As we came for lunch, most tables ordered the $48 lunch set menu and naturally had FOMO, so will come back to try! 10/10 will be back ! 🥳
