My spouse and I attended HACO for their Christmas Eve dinner with the wine vs sake pairing, and we could not recommend the experience more highly. It was the clear highlight of our holiday season, to the point that we would happily plan a return trip to Sydney next year just to do it again. The food was consistently exceptional. Each course felt thoughtful, creative, and deeply satisfying, with a menu that unfolded in a beautiful and deliberate rhythm. Standout moments included the otoro in uni butter, the asparagus ice cream set over yuzu ice, and the scallops with caviar, though in truth there was not a single dish that missed the mark. Every course felt like a quiet triumph. This was, without question, the best omakase (or dinner) we had in Sydney. The wine and sake pairing was a particularly inspired touch. Being served both alongside each course invited comparison and curiosity, and elevated the meal beyond a standard pairing. Each selection felt precise and intentional, enhancing the flavors of the dish without ever overwhelming them. Service further reinforced the sense of care and refinement that defines HACO. The team was attentive without intrusion, clearly anticipating needs before they arose, and contributing to an atmosphere that felt calm and assured throughout the evening. Our sincere thanks to the entire staff for such gracious and thoughtful hospitality. The ambiance deserves its own mention. The room was serene and beautifully composed, with seating that allowed guests to watch the food being prepared. With only ten to twelve diners in attendance, the experience felt intimate and unrushed. In a city where space is at a premium, this restraint made the evening feel all the more special. Thank you, HACO. We are already looking forward to returning.
An intimate 12 person restaurant, you are seated directly at the chefs table, and served 12 exciting courses in omakase style. Wide sake selection, great food, great atmosphere and personal service.
We loved HACO! This is an intimate dining space with superb food. We chose the lunch sitting and were not disappointed. The tempura is served individually and is not rushed. We both chose the Meat Lover and were blown away by the Wagyu beef, the pork belly and duck were melt in the mouth! The cheese tempura was a great surprise. We went on to order the abalone and large prawn. We would have loved to have tried the sake selection shower we opted for the green tea. An awesome experience and will be back
Overall rating: 7.5 Seasonal Tempura Omakaze had hit and misses but mostly hits. Service staff were very attentive and deserves the mandatory service charge of 5%. Omakaze dishes in order: Scallop - 10 Perfectly cooked and amazing sauce to partner a well balanced first started dish. Sashimi - 9 Standard well matched Japanese quality dish. Chawanmushi - 9 A very nice twist with very fresh seasoned prawns. Prawn Tempura - 5 First disappointment, Tempura prawn cooked to perfection but that's all. No surprises with the Match salt or Tempura sauce soup combination. John Dory - 6 My fish was slightly overcooked but my partners were done perfectly. Probably just my luck. The curry salt was awesome. Zucchini flower - 8.5 The soup base that paired with the zucchini flower was amazing. The stuffing within the zucchini flower needed more personality. A little disappointed that the stem wasn't included in the dish and was thrown away even it was tempura'd before serving. Yuzu - 8 Taste is a 10, but disappointed that it was noted as a dish on the menu when it was a Palette cleanser. Abalone - 8 Abalone cooked perfectly, and sauce was very well balanced but not my cup of tea. Market fish - 9 Same as above, cooked well and sauce was amazing. Wagyu - 11 out of 10 Superb, the tempura oyster wrapped with a5 Wagyu beef and sauces was perfection. Every bite was, the amount was just right for those with high cholesterol 😉 Ramen - 9.5 Chicken soup broth amazing, not enough noodles to have it all. Char sui slice was done well. Desert - 10 Well done with the sweet potatoes tempura and ice cream combi.
Came in for the set lunch, such a great deal. The food came out really fast, and we were done in about 40 minutes. Service was quick but we didn’t feel rushed. The tempura was light and airy, it reminded me of Japan. The drinks were amazing with a huge menu to choose from. Will definitely come back to try the dinner menu!
