I've been flying into Adelaide purposely for the last 5 years to eat here and it never disappoints. I love the element of surprise every time you go and how well the staff here listen to tailor the menu to your preferences. Service is outstanding and drinks taste incredible. If I could give this 100 stars, I would. Incredible value for the volume and quality of food you receive, too.
I donโt typically love eating a bunch of herbs but if Golden Boy could make me love it you know itโs good. This is what dining should be like. It makes you forget about the price. Thereโs food thatโs good enough to make you think that itโs worth the price, and thereโs food that makes you think about the food. The menu has pretty standard dishes, very safe recipes, but it is the execution that is flawless. Now, taste is indeed personal, but thatโs where the service stands out and our server asked just enough to figure out what we wanted down to the portion and spice level.
Itโs been awhile since I visited Adelaide and thought Iโd try Golden Boy. We were a group of 4 and went the Tuk Tuk menu. It was amazing. The flavours were impressive and memorable. The wine list was solid without being too over the top price wise. Our meal cost included wine and after dinner drinks so the set menu cost is quite reasonable.
I totally rate Golden Boy. We attended this restaurant on a Friday lunch time and were initially shocked to see how full it was. But when the food came out, we realised why they were so busy when most other restaurants are quiet. The restaurant serves contemporary Thai dishes and is right up there with some of the best Thai restaurants I've dined at. The Sichuan Pepper Beef Stir Fried with Rolled Noodles and Gai Lan is certainly one of the best rolled noodles dishes I've ever had. The Eight Hour Beef Cheeks with Tangerine Jus and Pickled Ginger had some excellent flavours and the beef was so soft and juicy that it tasted perfectly with the coconut rice. For dessert we had Roti with Pandan Custard and that was the perfect desert, which we had to eat on the go as we were too full to eat after those meals. The serving sizes here are also huge so the value for money is really good. I would highly recommend going here if you want to try some good quality Thai food. Regards @fooderarri
Entrees were the highlight - kingfish sashimi and the eggplant. Mains were let down by watery flavourless massaman curry (though the meat was beautifully tender) and white-boy-bland Pad Thai. Zero spice in any dishes, surprising for Thai. Portions were huge - you won't go hungry, though I'd love smaller plates with more to taste. I'm not huge on fusion food and love authentic Thai, so perhaps this wasn't the right spot for me. Lovely staff. We sat in the downstairs bar, but felt the vibe was off - a bit dull, and could use some fun speakeasy design vibes. Overall happy to have tried it, and good value for the amount of food, but perhaps ask for spice and don't let your waiter choose your menu - be specific about what you want to try!
