We were given this place as a recommendation from a Mexican friend so we expect it would be really good. Hoping to get some food and coffee for brunch around 11 am but no coffee. I had a chorizo sandwich which crisp which was okay. The sausage and the sauce was good, but baguette bread was a bit soggy like it has been heating up in a microwave before adding the filling. The music was a bit too loud and it made people in the restaurant talked even louder so they can hear each other.
It surpassed my expectations. The menu is quite big but there was only one vegetarian filling (Nopal), which is cactus, and it honestly surprised me. Iโm very open to trying new things, and the Cheese Nopal Tacos were super delicious. The tortilla tasted homemade (Iโm not sure if they actually make it in-house). My friends also enjoyed their tacos, and the tostadas we shared were super yummy as well โ the beans were outstanding. We had some cheladas, and they even gave us a mezcal shot for my friendโs birthday. It was busy to be Monday so I recommend do a booking. I would definitely recommend this place and come back.
El Culumpio is more than just a restaurant, itโs the place of your dreams. One bite and youโll question your life choices and wonder why you havenโt came here sooner, the food makes you feel like youโve taken a trip across the world and landed in Mexico. Everyday that I step foot in there brings a new surprise, one day barbacoa tacos, then pozole, then tamales, then chilaquiles all with my agua de horchata. The head chef is a passionate man that prioritises delivering an authentic experience.
The food was incredible!! Every single dish that was served to us was packed full of flavour and absolutely delicious. We tried the cactus tacos which were new to us, and we were blown away. The service was excellent and the vibes were so goood! 10/10 would recommend. Oh and the flan donโt even get me started! Yum
Itโs the closest to an authentic Mexican restaurant Iโve been to, here in Melbourne. The staff speaks Spanish. I tried the Pastorqueso, Suadero and Campechana (Suadero con Chorizo), with Agua de Horchata. It was so good. The best was suadero, and after that the Campechana. Pastorqueso was a bit underwhelming but it tastes just like what Pastor tastes like in Australia. You should definitely get Suadero. The Campechana was so good too, I think I wouldโve liked the chorizo to be chopped instead of sliced but the flavors are all there. There was also a Mango Habanero sauce, but it tastes like a sweet chipotle sauce. Iโm definitely coming back! Iโm excited to try Chilaquiles next
