Such a great find on a wet weekday in Hobart. It was a drizzly, cold day and we were craving great Japanese — Bar Wa Izakaya delivered with a cool, urban Japanese vibe that was perfect for a late lunch. The ramen had a robust, deeply satisfying umami flavour, the pickled octopus absolutely hit the spot, and the beef tartare was beautifully balanced — all the flavours just melded and worked. There’s an expressive sake and Japanese beverage/cocktail list if you’re feeling adventurous, but they’re also happy to make your usual if that’s more your style. Warm hospitality, standout food, and a great atmosphere. Definately recommend for something different

Such a truly fantastic dinner ! Got a few things to share, and felt pleasantly satisfied. Drinks were super unique and absolutely delicious; for whisky lovers this place was absolutely perfect. The golden sour was truly one of a kind. Even if the service and food were subpar (which they weren’t) the design of the restaurant could’ve made up for it. I truly appreciate a restaurant that takes pride in its design & I think that this restaurant does exactly that; it doesn’t falter on creating a unique atmosphere but also doesn’t try to stick out like a sore thumb.

Awesome Japanese izakaya with a great vibe — lively, warm and buzzing without being too loud. The food was excellent, full of bold and vibrant flavours, and everything we tried was spot on. Really good variety of Japanese drinks too, including sake, whisky and cocktails that pair well with the food. It’s the kind of place where you want to order a few dishes and share. Service was friendly and efficient, and the whole place just feels well run. Definitely a must-go if you’re in Hobart and enjoy Japanese food — one of those places you’d happily come back to.

First time visiting in Hobart Tasmania and didn’t wanna leave without ticking this box. Truly worth it! Definitely where Hobart and Tokyo meets. Great dining experience, great food, service, and atmosphere. The Beef eye fillet tartare and the cocktail were the highlights for me tonight. The whole place is highly recommended and rated.

We had a fantastic dinner and drinks at Wa Izakaya. The drinks selection is impressive, especially the Japanese whisky range, and the team clearly put real thought into their offering. Dinner was delicious, well-executed, and served with great attention to detail. Overall, this is a standout spot for anyone looking for quality food, great drinks, and an unforgettable atmosphere.
