Pretty underwhelming experience at Bang & Grind on Spencer St. I ordered an açaí bowl with an iced soy dirty chai, and my partner had the Greedy Wrap with a soy iced matcha. Everything sounded great on paper, but the execution was well off. My iced dirty chai was basically lukewarm cinnamon-flavoured milk with zero coffee taste. My partner’s matcha tasted the same — green milk, no matcha. For the price they charge, you’d expect at least a hint of the actual ingredients. The açaí bowl was tiny, with barely any açaí — which is literally the thing you’re paying for. They usually add ice cream, but since I don’t eat dairy I asked for a little extra banana instead. Hard no from the waitress. Happy to remove ingredients, absolutely not willing to substitute something reasonable. Taste was fine, but it’s hard to mess up açaí. The Greedy Wrap looked great but the flavour was bland and forgettable. Pretty much the theme of the meal. Cleanliness was average at best. The café looked messy and the tables didn’t feel properly wiped down. The staff member serving us seemed disinterested and basic customer requests felt like an inconvenience. Nil vibe to the place either. The kicker: almost $60 for two meals and two drinks that were mediocre at best. Absolutely not worth it. No idea how this place has such a high rating online. Wouldn’t recommend.
Delicious açai bowl, one of the best I’ve had in Cairns. The jalapeño bacon and egg wrap is also a winner. Their coffee is amazing too, we chose smooth 😍
Bang & Grind, Spence Street always deliver a great experience. Best breakfasts and great coffee. Fast friendly service. I pass thru Cairns for work on a regular basis and this is where I come back to every time. 5⭐️
This is by far the best flat white I have had visiting Australia. I guess it depends on the day you visit who prepares the coffees but every time I visit it has been great. Plus a dog design, well that’s amazing! Their blueberry muffins are also good - heated. Staff is always smiling and friendly. If you stay awhile in Cairns they offer a loyalty card!
I was looking for a good brunch spot in Cairns and came across Bang & Grind Café—the reviews were great, so we decided to check it out. Honestly, this place did not disappoint. It’s a small café, but the food is absolutely top-notch. I had the Poached Eggs Benedict, and they were spot on—perfectly cooked eggs, crispy bacon, and amazing sausages. My partner had one of the wraps, and it was soft, juicy, and easy to eat on the go. Everything was fresh and full of flavor. What really stood out, though, was the service. The barista/cashier was incredibly kind and welcoming—he really makes the place feel special. Friendly, fast, and genuine service that adds to the whole experience.
